Muchu House

Have you ever dreamed of falling asleep to the meditative sound of the waves? Waking up to the golden rays of the sunrise? Muchu House on the Sea will offer you this unique experience. Join us and live real local life on this beautiful island.

Our little guesthouse is built of recycled materials like wood, bamboo and tin and will allow you to taste a simple life style, like a fisherman, who does not need much to be happy. The guesthouse features 3 rustic rooms built on stilts on the sea in a quiet, local area of Koh Lanta Old Town. The rooms, Chuchu, Mumu and Zulu, are named after the cats that live on the property.

Muchu House will allow you to completely unwind from everyday hustle and bustle and just chill and take it easy for a while. Watch the sunrise early in the morning filling the sky with shades of gold, swing on your hammock with a book or cook local market produce in the outdoor kitchen. Please be aware that Muchu House is a very basic accommodation so it is really for those who are happy to experience a back-to-basic life style and not for the ones looking for a luxury beach getaway.

All rooms share an outdoor kitchen and a large relaxing deck where you can swing on your hammock or do some yoga. Wifi can be accessed from all the rooms and the shared areas. If you are looking for a different, unique, local experience, MuChu is the place!

Chuchu is the superior room, or the “Royal Suite”, the best out of the three rooms. The spacious bungalow is built of wood in real fisherman style and has a king-size bed, mosquito net, table, chairs, hammock, fan and a private bathroom with hot shower. Big sliding doors opening up to the sea and the deck allow you to watch the sun rising up above the horizon and the low tide changing into high from the comfort of your bed. The view is magnificent. Please be aware that the deck is shared with the two other rooms. When other guests stay in the other two rooms, they also have access to the deck that is in front of Chuchu. It is important that you realise this when you book.

Zulu is the smallest and cheapest room, mainly because it doesn’t have the sea view straight from the bed like the other two rooms and it is located under Mumu, which is the room above. But despite the disadvantages, Zulu is a really cute and cozy little room, and well-priced too of course. It is made of wood and bamboo in real fisherman style and has a queen-size bed, fan, mosquito net, a private bathroom with cold shower, and a little private deck with hammock opening up to the kitchen area. Zulu does not have any windows but three big doors with a fisherman style kind of lock that give the room an open feeling and lots of light and air.

Mumu room is a real gem. The spacious and cozy room is built of wood and tin in real Fisherman style and is decorated with bamboo. It has a king-size bed, mosquito net, fan, table, chairs, hammock and a simple but convenient bathroom with cold water. Mumu is located on the second floor on the street side, but still has a beautiful sea view straight from the bed. Mumu room feels almost like a cozy tree house. The wall facing the sea is open (yet very private). It allows you to watch the sun rising up above the horizon and the low tide changing into high from the comfort of your bed. It gives a feeling of freedom, open space and natural airflow. If you enjoy living in an open area and being surrounded by nature, you will love Mumu. The stairs leading up to the room can be a challenge if you are unfit or have some problems with legs or back.

All guests have access to an outdoor kitchen with fridge and gas stove. You might want to practice your newly-acquired Thai cooking skills or just take a break from Thai food and cook something from back home. Nearby you can buy the freshest fish, squid and shrimp straight from the fisherman or you can indulge in local markets where you explore local fruit, veggies, spices, curries and other familiar and totally new ingredients.
In every corner of the house and the outside deck you can enjoy good quality wifi. If you stay with us for more than a week, we provide a once-weekly cleaning service to make your stay pleasant.

After your check-in we are at your service to answer any questions you might have and help you arrange anything, such as motorbike rental, transportation to and from the airport, a 4-island trip or a diving course. You can also try Mon’s local-style private cooking classes, where you learn to cook authentic Thai food in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. More info about that on our web page Cooking with Mon.
